The LORD’s Fingerprints In Nature

lillies (10.29.18)

Oh that we would remind each other of the central/foundational importance of
knowing the Father, Son & Holy Spirit—
this is why we’ve been born & reborn in Christ!

But many feel that God is far from us…

I wonder if that is because, well, our minds are far from Him.

We simply won’t feel close to the LORD, we won’t know Him closely,
& we wont often get much out of a worship service or Bible reading,
if we think about Him in a few compartmentalized moments each week:

  • just like not going to school/opening books all week
then furiously studying for an hour—
that doesn’t work for long! 🙂
    .
  • or like sitting on the couch all week
then furiously working out for an hour—
would you get healthy/fit that way?

So how do we do this, how do we draw near to the LORD to know Him better?

The main way we know & seek the LORD is thru the Bible, what He has said.
(for more about this, please click HERE)

We can also weave thoughts of the LORD into our daily lives
by looking to nature to see some of the ways
that the LORD has shown in the physical world
what He has revealed in the Bible. For example,

Luke 12:31: “But seek his kingdom…”

Matthew 6 also adds, “Seek first His kingdom & His righteousness…”

In other words, seek the LORD—know Him!!!

In that context, the Lord Jesus gives us one of the ways to seek the LORD:

Luke 12:24-32: 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap,
they have no storeroom or barn;
yet God feeds them.
And how much more valuable you are than birds!
25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?
26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin.
Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today,
and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,
how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!

29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.
30 For the pagan world runs after all such things,
and your Father knows that you need them.
31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

Recently I have been looking at trees (surprise surprise!);
ever noticed how tree leaves almost sparkle?
It’s so beautiful, and it’s the detailed design of God as Artist:

He has designed light and shadow to create a color contrast in trees,
and when the sun shines & the wind blows,
the light on some leaves and the shadow on other leaves
constantly changes and creates a kind of sparkle—

it’s beautiful, and it shows us how the Father delights to create,
and to create small details that we often miss.

THAT is the God Who, as we have seen from the Bible,
is both willing and compassionate to sinners like us,
that is the God Who can say that He knows the number of hairs on our heads—details!—
and knitted each of us together, by His hand, in our mother’s wombs!

Oh let’s consider God’s fingerprints in nature around us,
supporting/corroborating what He has revealed in the Bible!

Let’s consider the ravens, the lilies, the trees.

Let’s know Him together

  • through faith in His Son,
  • through being filled with His Holy Spirit,
  • thru planting ourselves deeply in His Word everyday—

the willing & compassionate God of the universe as a whole…
& of the individual leaves of a tree.
