What God Has Been Teaching Me Lately XXXVII (37)…

Maze of mirrors (7-20-15)

Greetings My Friends~

As a simple pilgrim following Jesus through the rainforests and deserts of this earthly life, I would like to humbly share some of what God has been bubbling up in my mind/heart lately.

I pray that these thoughts are cushions in your shoes, balm to your burns, umbrellas for the rain, and shade to the scorching heat as you too follow the Lord Jesus each day.

.
Waiting On God

A. Waiting on God is not for wimps, but for warriors—it takes strength & courage.

“Be strong, take heart, & wait for the LORD” (Psalm 27:14).

.
B. Jesus—the ultimate Man of action—

is also the ultimate Man of waiting (Luke 6:15, John 5:19; 12:49);

He waited on the Father each day in prayer for what to say & do.

The Bible

Many of us, if we open the Bible, do so to search for what we want it to say

& to avoid what we dont want it to say.

God help us see & believe what it does say!

Contrasts

We will appreciate heaven’s length because of earth’s brevity;

Heaven’s perfection because of earth’s imperfection;

Heaven’s peace because of earth’s suffering.

Prayer

A. In prayer, God gives us the strength, not to fix our problems, but to face them (Isaiah 40:28-31).

.
B. Seven days without prayer makes one weak…

Letting Jesus Satisfy You

LORD forgive us for gulping the saltwater & sugary beverages of this world

instead of the Living Water You offer us—quench us! (Jeremiah 2:13)

Being Amazed By God

Forgive us, Heavenly Father, for straying FROM You

because we aren’t in awe OF You.

Help us be amazed BY You alone! (Jeremiah 2:19)

Wisdom & Courage, Humility & Strength

God help us not to look for fights or

to run from them—

Help us be peacemakers

but not peace at-any-cost—

Help us be wise as serpents & innocent as doves (Matthew 10:16).

So Long, Self

A carnival maze of mirrors is appropriately terrifying/confusing:

we reflect only ourselves!

Jesus invites us to heaven’s opposite:

to reflect only Him (Matthew 5:16).

Prayer

Lord Jesus, teach us in prayer to be still

& have Your love, grace & Truth

be the cashmere

that gently covers

our raw & sunburned shoulders.

In Your name I pray, amen…
