Whispers In The Bible…

God_whispers (7-21-14)
.
The word “whisper” appears 16 times in the NIV translation of the Bible (please click HERE). By looking at these different passages we learn an important lesson about an activity (in this case, whispering) in the hands of broken humans and that same activity in the hands of the perfect Almighty God.
.
Through Sinful Humans
.
1. To discuss tragedy (2 Samuel 12:19) when King David’s infant child died.
.
2. To tell a terrifying secret (Job 4:12) to Job’s friend during a dream.
.
3. To plot evil (Psalm 31:13) against King David by his enemies.
.
4. To discourage (Psalm 41:6-8) King David with pessimistic predictions.
.
5. To use the occult (Isaiah 8:19) to find out information about the future, life, etc.
.
6. To gossip about and discredit (Jeremiah 20:10; Lamentations 3:61-62) the prophet Jeremiah.
.
7. To state personal opinion of Jesus’ identity (John 7:12), who people think He really is.
.
8. To be afraid of what other humans will think (John 7:32) of our opinion of who Jesus really is.

By The Sinless One True God
.
1. To Personally and lovingly discipline (Isaiah 26:16; 29:4) God’s people to help them learn from past sin and avoid sin’s future pain.
.
2. To Personally communicate to/speak with humans (1 Kings 19:12) God’s own love for, encouragement to, friendship with and faithfulness toward us.
.
3. To Personally display the power of God’s love (Psalm 107:29) over nature’s fiercest storms.
.
4. To Personally communicate to/speak with humans (Matthew 10:27) about the Gospel (Good News!) of God’s free grace and love through faith in Jesus Christ.
.
.
Takeaways
.
So what is a lesson here from the above passages?
.
Namely, that while something (a whisper) in the hands of sinful humans can be used for evil, sin, pain, and destruction, that same something in the hands of The Holy God can be used for love, encouragement, friendship, correction, and hope.
.
May God help us to listen intently for His whispers to us…
