What Does A Pastor DO All Week?

.
This is easily one of the most difficult questions for me to answer…even more than “Did Adam & Eve have belly buttons?” or “How could Noah forget the UNICORNS!?” 🙂
.
Nevertheless, in an effort to have as much transparency and openness as possible, here is how I invest my time each Sunday–Thursday on behalf of God and the local church where I serve:
.
.
1. Pray
for my wife and children, pray for Elevate (local church), pray for what God is doing in our local community (Mankato) and around the world, pray for Christians locally and around the world, and pray for myself in my roles as husband, dad and pastor. In other words, I invest time learning to quietly listen to and tangibly rely on God in every way possible.
.
2. Pace myself
so that I give 100% of myself at work but also have the energy/strength to give 100% of myself to my wife & children at home.
.
3. Remind myself
that life in general and church in particular is all about Jesus and not at all about me.
.
4. Communicate with
Elevate attenders consistently via email, text, phone, and face to face visits to encourage, listen to, pray with, and learn from them.
.
5. Prayerfully work
with Elevate attenders, volunteers, and leaders to plan and put together strategies and events to help us love God and all others more and more.
.
6. Keep in touch
regularly with Elevate team leaders to support them as they fulfill their important roles at Elevate.
.
7. Meet with Leadership Team
(Board) to keep them up to date on how I am investing my time and what I am working toward and to hear their input/counsel.
.
8. Interact regularly
with Mankato pastors to pray for Mankato, to listen to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and to work together with God and all His people to meet the earthly and eternal needs of Mankato.
.
9. Interact regularly
with Mankato civic leaders and charity agencies to learn how Elevate can partner with them in serving the people of Mankato.
.
10. Humbly counsel
individuals, couples and families as they go through life’s mountain tops and valleys.
.
11. Write sermons
and other devotion materials to help us love God and others more and more.
.
12. Read the Bible
and other Christian writings to feed my soul so I have the strength to love God and all others and so I have the strength to teach others to love God and all others.
.
13. Pray for
my wife and children, pray for Elevate (local church), pray for what God is doing in our local community (Mankato) and around the world, pray for Christians locally and around the world, and pray for myself in my roles as husband, dad and pastor. In other words, I invest time learning to quietly listen to and tangibly rely on God in every way possible.
.
14. Teach others
to do #s 1-13 above.
.
So there you have it. That’s an average week for me.

Notice that golf and computer solitaire isn’t anywhere on the list! 🙂
