Sonnet: “Within This Land Of Independent Thought”…
Within this land of independent thought
A field where freedom reigns on liberty
Where self-discovery, like grails, be sought
Our selves, like nothing else, we long to see
Within this day of self accomplishment
We strive t’wards goals that glorify the “I”
Yet blinded thus are we to Him Who sent
The Lamb to herd our hearts and shear our eye
Yet what concern of us these statements be?
For we—dear Yahweh’s children—have been learned
To store within our roofs fair Heaven’s key
Relaxing ‘neath that which we thought we earned
Thus Heaven’s keys be not like drap’ried gold
Whose worth lies in the seen, the bought, the sold
